Rent a flat for a short term

Furnished Rentals

Certain private owners rent premises sufficiently furnished for daily living. The steps towards finding this type of rental are the same as those for empty dwellings.

The duration of the leasing period and the rent are freely determined. The rent is generally paid monthly, but may be paid on weekly basis as well. A written lease is not compulsory but it is recommended to write one up and include:

  • the amount of the rent,
  • the amount of charges if they are not included,
  • compulsory insurance,
  • rental duration,
  • possibilities existing for contract termination before expiry,
  • the notice to be given by the owner and tenant.

It is important to conduct an inventory of the premises, which includes furniture and fixtures. The owner generally requires a deposit whose amount varies according the duration of the rental period.

Should an intermediary be involved (real estate agent or « notaire ») they are entitled to remuneration. This amount must be indicated to you.

Other short-term rental formulas exist as well: hotels, young workers’home, rural homes (gîtes ruraux), university housing, and youth hostels.

Some CIL may have available for company employees or trainees, collective accommodation, either in hostels (young workers, for example) or « accommodation centres » (hotel-style residences intended for company employees).
